I’ve seen a some suggestions made from different authors that smaller web hosts would be out of their owners’ grasp because of the policy of the biggest Internet brands. Experts basically say that Yashoo and Google provide entry level personal web hosting packages for free. The conclusion is that the small businesses involed in web hosting are put under heavy pressure and can not compete the big guys.
However the only thing that smaller web hosts can not do better than corporations is to invest in advanced technologies and new equipment. But the technology becomes more and more accessible. That’s why entry-level companies have a good chance to stay successful. Small businesses have one big advantage. They are more touchable compared to big sharks in web hosting business. That means they can better communicate with their customers. It is much easier to know the names and business goals of 2,000 customers instead of 50,000 or 100,000. So you are able to serve them better and to personalize customer support. Something that corporations can not afford, even they collect all personal details of their customers they can find.
That’s why I really prefer to work with smaller web hosting companies and to encourage them, to be competitive instead of supporting companies like Google and Yahoo.
