Ubercart. E-Commerce Solution For Drupal Community?

“This is a killer combination for anyone looking to build a community around a product, sell access to premium content, offer paid file downloads, and much much more!”, states Ubercart on their website. “Killer combination” is Drupal + Ubercart. And while almost everyone now know what is Drupal, let’s see what is Ubercart!

According to Ubercart developers one of the key strengths of their software is its design. They say it allows “official and third party developers to add to or alter its features to accommodate virtually any e-commerce need. This means you’ll never have to change the source code to add new features, so you’ll have an easy upgrade path when the core gets improved or bug fixes are released”, state Ubercard producers on their website.

The software producer say that Ubercart can be used from website owners to sell physical goods from various sized product catalogs, to distribute file downloads as well as to sell access for community websites and to manage automatic renewals and expiration of user access.

What People Say?

“… the reason why I like Ubercart so much, is because of how damn integrated it is with Drupal” says Blake’s blog. The blogger explains that the developers have even gone so far as to create “new Drupalesk hooks for developers to tie into with custom modules”. The blogger add that Ubercart offers outstanding features that make him “truly believe it is going to be the best solution for open source e-commerce”. These according to Blake’s blog are: Outstanding user and order administration, including administration placed orders without browsing the site to add items; Pre integration with Drupal’s search engine, user capabilities, search engine friendliness, content publishing power, and tremendous support for themes; Simplicity to integrate any online merchant processing using the basic module provided; Centralization of customized pricing structure available in a single php function; Last but not least, the Drupal community.

Blakes blog finishes the review with the conclusion that “this solution is not fully ready for those without experience using or coding for Drupal”.

“Ubercart is an open-source ecommerce solution. It’s not osCommerce derived, which immediately fills me with hope. It’s got a silly name, but great looking demo sites. It’s based on Drupal, and plugs in as a module.”, writes the owner of SEO Rant blog. The blogger explains a process of Ubercart installation. He’s not satisfied of Ubercart.

“Ubercart – you looked hot, but it turned out that you were a tranny. I’m kinda glad I kept my pants on”, ends the article.
